First you have to choose your message. I wanted to use DAD as a message so It will look bigger and will pop up right when you see it. You are going to write your message and print it on a hardboard in the color that you want. I want simple things so I’ve chosen my cardboard to be white and the letters of the word DAD to be black using some handwritten graffiti looking font.

When you have your message printed you are going to cut it by dimensions so it is going to fit in your fame. I was using frame with dimensions 15cm x 21cm so that is the dimensions that also your message has to be so it can fit in the frame you are going to use. As I mentioned previously, I want more simple look so I’ve chosen my fame also to be white. Please know that this depends of your taste so you can choose to use any color that you want to.

In the next step you are going to fill the letter with the fines and screws you’ve chosen previously. I wanted to add more vintage look so I’ve decided to add some old fines and screws that were already used.  Also added some old springs and other already used tools that can’t be used anymore just to add more vintage look. At the ends of the letter where you have some rounds you can use the screws so it is going to look really nice and filled.

For gluing all this tools I’ve decided to use hot glue gun. As you already know you can use any type of glue you think will work for you.

When you finish with filling the letters it’s time to put your cardboard in the frame. If it’s not fitting inside or if it is bigger you can always cut it a little from the sides using some scissors or paper cutter whatever works best for you.

I’ve decided to take the glass of the frame out because I wasn’t able to fit the cardboard in the frame. If you find some wider frame like a box for this project it could look really good. At the bottom I’ve decided to add wrench. Just now that this step is totally optional.

And there you have a perfect gift for your father or grandfather with some modifications. You can also glue some of the fines and screws if you have some left around the message and on the frame, also using some hot glue gun.

One idea for another similar project is to glue some rocks and stones from the beach on the frame and put some message in the frame like “Daddy you rock”. The possibilities are limitless you just have to use your imagination.
