Make Your Own Mug

For this DIY project you will need

– White mug
– Scissors
– Scalpel
– Pencil
– White sheet
– Sticky tape
– Nail polish

Create your own mug

First, take the white sheet and write your message on it. You can choose your favorite quote, some inspirational message or draw some shape. The possibilities are limitless. You can put on the sheet whatever you want. I needed a gift for father’s day so I’ve used the word DAD.

When you are finished with writing or drawing it’s time for cutting. Now you are going to cut the quote, message or shape you’ve already drawn in the sheet. There are several ways to do this, but I’ve chosen to use scalpel. It looks like the easiest way for me to finish this step. One additional advice when we are here. There are letters that have additional pieces inside the letter in my case all three letters have one. In this case you can either draw a little line and continue cutting so this little piece will stay as well or you can cut them by the lines and then glue that piece where it has to be. It’s totally up to you.

When you are finished with cutting it’s time for the next step. You are going to glue your message on the mug. Please make sure that you are going to glue every piece needed on the mug. For example, in my case, beside of the sheet with the message I’ve glued inside the letters the little pieces of the letters DAD. For gluing I’ve used sticky tape, but you can use any type of glue you think will work.

Now it’s time for painting. Take your nail polish and start filling the message with color. I’ve used black nail polish but you can use any color you want. It depends of your taste. Maybe you want your message to be in the colors of the rainbow so you are going to fill every letter with different color.

As you are going to fill your message with nail polish you are going to see that the more layers of nail polish you put the darker and beautiful look you get. Try a few different options, maybe will be better to let the first layer dry a little and then add the other one. When the nail polish dries you are going to take off the white sheet and you are going to get something like on the pictures below.

I’ve put the mug under cold water and it didn’t wash off, so you can wash the glass and the message will stay in place. I’m not sure if the nail polish won’t wash if you put the glass in the dishwasher.

One additional advice, if you have some sticky tape like duct tape for example, and if you can cut your message on that and glue on the mug so it don’t has gaps between the sheet and the mag, you are going to get much better look of your personalized mug.
